The Vikings of Middle England are coming

The Vikings return!  The Vikings of Middle England revisit Rockingham Castle to tell the story of times past.  The date is 1068 and the Vikings and Norman invaders are battling for power and influence over the Saxon population caught between the two.  The story unfolds on the field of battle, whilst in the living history encampment normal life continues despite the fighting and conflict.

Life in early times was very hard and all the modern conveniences of life that are taken for granted now did not exist.   See crafts people making armour and weapons, children’s toys, weaving cloth for clothes; see social gatherings, families preparing meals and much more.

Rockingham Castle’s owner James Saunders Watson said “The Vikings are without doubt one of the most exciting and interesting of the events we hold here at the Castle.  The Castle stands on the site of a Viking settlement so it is highly appropriate that they should be here telling the story of early English history.  The living history encampment is remarkably true to how Vikings would have lived and the battles are truly electrifying”.

The gates open at 12 noon with the castle opening at 1pm.  For further information about visiting the Castle and the events taking place please telephone 01536 770240 or visit the website at www.rockinghamcastle.com
