Jousting & Medieval Living History

Sunday 13th June 2010

The Knights of Nottingham and Oxford Household return to Rockingham Castle for an exciting day of action both on and off the battlefield.

The Oxford Household in their living history encampment display life in medieval England. Families, traders and skilled tradesmen live side by side demonstrating the skills required in times past in an authentic setting. They take to the jousting arena to entertain adults and children alike with the skills required by the medieval warrior.

To thunderous applause the knights of old take to the field to prove their courage and heroism on the jousting field. The Black Knight has come to do battle; and he intends to win at any cost. Boos ring out at the underhand and dastardly deeds of the Black Knight and his evil entourage. There are gasps of disbelief as the rules of combat are broken over and over again, inflicting terrible pain and injury on the White Knight and his good and true men.

And there is laughter too, at the antics of a drunken Sir Fredrick, the only Knight left in the Kingdom fool hardy enough to support the White Knight's cause.  Will good triumph over evil? Come and see!

Castle Operations Manager, Andrew Norman said “This is one of the most thrilling and colourful events in the Castle’s calendar. The jousting is outstandingly exciting, the living history village is fascinating and in conjunction there is music, story telling, have-a-go archery and jesting. All in all the makings of a great day out”.

The gates open and the action start at 12 noon with the castle opening at 1pm. For further information about visiting the Castle and the events taking place please telephone 01536 770240 or visit the website at http://www.rockinghamcastle.com/
