Plans are already afoot for Phase II of the Willow Place shopping centre, which will treble the size of the development, incorporating leisure facilities, apartments and a new 1,200 space car park – taking town centre development to the next level.
Phase II will bring the total investment in Willow Place
to £120 million – creating space for larger retail units, including a prestigious department store.
The move will involve developing an obsolete office block and the former bus station, as well as other poorly utilised town centre spaces. A major site has been earmarked for a large leisure site, which could incorporate a multiplex cinema bowling and restaurants. Alongside will be a 60,000 sq ft food store with integrated parking.
The 27,871 sq m (300,000 sq ft) development could start on site as early as 2008, with an anticipated final completion date of 2011.
